The most stunning jogging scenery

Ankkuri is one of Lahti’s most prestigious residential areas, where the emphasis is on high-quality construction. A magnificent waterfront boulevard along the shoreline of Lake Vesijärvi and the Lanupuisto jogging paths with scenic stairs make Ankkuri a favourite area for outdoor recreation. In the Kariniemi tree species park you can explore the diverse flora while jogging, and in autumn the trees lining the boulevard shine in warm brown colours. From Ankkuri you can walk along the shore of Lake Vesijärvi all the way to Kisapuisto and the Salpausselkä landscape.

In the heart of the city centre

When you walk from Ankkuri through Lanupuisto to the Kartano residential area, you can already see the Alvar Aalto-designed Cross Church, one of the landmarks of Lahti’s city centre, on the horizon. The shops, restaurants, cultural venues and other services of the city centre are waiting for you under Kartano and Ankkuri.

The jewel in the crown of the Ankkuri area is the handsome red-brick Lahti Sibelius Hall in the harbour area. You can also enjoy culture at the Lahti Museum of Visual Arts in Malva and the city’s theatre and library in the city centre.

High quality student housing

Students will enjoy the short walk of just over a kilometer to the Niemi campus area. One of the most recognisable landmarks in the Ankkuri area is the student house on Borupinraitti, next to the Sibelius Hall. Borupinraitti is easily accessible towards the city centre, and it is only a few kilometres from Ankkuri to the travel centre. Close to the city centre, you will also find our wooden student apartment building on Svinhufvudinkatu.

A paradise for families with children

For the little ones in the family, there are many nice play areas in Ankkuri, such as the play areas in Ankkuri Park and Karihovi Park. The whole family is sure to enjoy especially the Ankkuri beach, to where you can grab a picnic lunch from the harbour café.

There are several kindergartens and schools in the Ankkuri and Kartano area. The Kivimaa school and schools in the city centre are all within walking distance. There are also many recreational facilities nearby, such as the ball courts in the Kisapuisto, the Kivimaa swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and the jogging and skiing tracks of the Salpausselkä.

Next to the harbour restaurants

The harbour area and the shores of Lake Vesijärvi are considered by many to be the best part of Lahti – and not just because of the stunning scenery, as there are also many nice restaurants and cafés in the harbour area. The great terrace area of the Piano Pavilion, the Kokka bistro and the friendly Café Kariranta attract gourmets in the waterfront setting. Ankkuri also has a barbecue and local shops for everyday shopping.
