Sustainability Impact Assessment 2024

Our Sustainability Report 2024 brings together the impacts, risks and opportunities related to the sustainability of Lahden Talot in an open and transparent manner. The report has been prepared in accordance with the EU Sustainability Reporting Directive. You will also find our Group’s strategy and business model, sustainability governance and organisation. Our report has not been objectively verified.

We have reported extensively on these categories:

  • climate change impacts and mitigation
  • energy consumption and
  • greenhouse gas emissions

We have reported these categories in part:

  • circular economy
  • own labour force
  • value chain workers
  • consumers and end-users
  • conducting business, and
  • water consumption

We have not reported on pollution, biodiversity or impacts on local communities, as these are not the most relevant sustainability challenges for our operations. In 2025, we will set targets to enhance biodiversity by 2030.

A brief overview of our sustainability

1. We are working to mitigate climate change

Buildings account for around 30% of emissions in Finland. Energy consumption during residential use, and in particular district heating, is the main source of our emissions. That is why we at Lahden Talot invest in good energy management and reducing emissions is an important goal.

2. Our district heating emissions fell

During 2024, district heat consumption fell by 4.81%. Market-based emissions decreased by 0.31%. Going forward, we aim to reduce district heat consumption by 1% per year. To reach our target, we will improve the thermal insulation of our buildings, monitor and improve the performance of building services and keep average temperatures in homes appropriate.

3. We reduced our water consumption

Reducing water consumption is also an important objective for us. The aim is to reduce water consumption to less than 130 litres per capita per day. In 2024, we will reduce our water consumption in residential properties in Lahden Talot and Lahden Asunnot by 1.07% compared to the previous year.

4. Good waste management is important to us

We take care of the functionality of waste management, such as appropriate emptying intervals, sufficient collection bins and the general cleanliness of the waste sheds, to make recycling convenient and easy for our customers. We encourage our residents to sort properly so that together we can promote a good circular economy. During 2025, Lahden Talot will check the condition of all its waste sheds and the collection equipment and sorting instructions they contain.

5. We offer affordable homes

It is important for us to provide good housing and suitable and affordable homes for different life situations. The year 2024 was still marked by uncertainties in the operating environment and rising costs. To ensure rents were affordable, we reorganised and streamlined our company’s operations to maintain or even reduce rents for our residents.

6. We improved housing security

Last year, we introduced a new hosting model. Each of our buildings now has its own property manager who, among other things, knows the specificities of the building and listens to the needs of our customers. Lahden Talot has also improved its customer information and harmonised its layout. Through these changes, we have improved housing safety and improved service and living comfort.
